Q: VIOXX, Celebrex arthritis drugs are in demand by people who are willing to risk the side effects. Would you?
The super arthritis miracle drugs, Vioxx and Celebrex have been the target of liablity lawyers and Vioxx removed voluntarily by Merck. Many people are petitioning for the return saying they will monitor the risks to their hearts in exchange for being able to walk and move about pain free. Would you?

A: My son has a very rare abdominal sarcoma with very few treatment options. Vioxx was actually one of the drugs being used by patients with his disease with some amount of success. It's withdrawal as an option for these patients was devastating. Only one patient whose mother is an oncology nurse was able to gather enough Vioxx to continue treating her son. He is cancer free . . not necessarily totally from taking Vioxx . . but it does seem to have kept the sarcoma from developing. At the moment we have about four patients using Celebrex as a 'maintenance drug ' . . and so far, so good . .they are doing well. I wish people who did not understand because they don't have cancer or a child with cancer . . or they have political agendas or motivation would stay out of all this. We feel that vioxx should remain an option for those who have few options to begin with.

Q: Has anyone heard of having lung problems from taking rheumatoid arthritis drugs?
I've had RA for 2 years now, and for over the past 6 months I've been having serious lung problems to the point I was hospitalized once. I was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, but I think my lung specialist isn't totally sure. They took me off methatraxate and embrel.

A: These two drugs suppress your immune system drastically and make you prone to all kinds of infections and illnesses. Why don't u try taking Humira? You get to inject yourself in the belly every two weeks. Trust me, it's not as bad as it sounds. It will really get rid of your RA. You will thank me later, hun. May God speed your recovery.

Q: Do certain illegal drugs cause early Rheumatoid Arthritis, or any type of bone deterioration more than others?
I know all illegal drugs are bad, but are certain ones known to cause Rheumatoid Arthritis, or any type of bone deterioration, over others? I have used a few in the past, and now at 22, I am suffering from an advanced case of bone damage in my hands. I have also been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Please help with real facts, Rather than just "Drugs are bad". I will be picking the best answer. Thanks!

A: It doesn't sound drug related. Caffeine and any number of other things will leech calcium from your bones, but it shouldn't hit you at 22. It sounds like repeated exposure to hydrofluoric acid more than anything else. I'm not aware of any drugs that are suspected to cause rheumatoid arthritis. Realistically, the only way for any illegal drugs to damage you like this is if they make you neglect your health. But if you want more insight, it would help if you list the drugs you've taken and any other problems associated with them.

Q: anyone know how to reduce pain of arthritis without drugs?
Hi, i have the worst arthritis in my hands, i used to do a lot of heavy work nursing and have no cartilage in my finger tips. the pain is worst at the base of the thumbs.it's like the bone is broken. i can't take anti inflammatory due to blood pressure.sometimes sports liniments help a bit.can't live on pain killers so have been putting up with pain.i wonder if a operation would help?

A: To ease arthritis pain, you do not necessarily have to rely solely on pain pills and steroids; there are a few alternative treatments that may help you find relief, including acupuncture. Acupuncture is also thought to decrease pain by increasing the release of chemicals that block pain, called endorphins. Many acu-points are near nerves. When stimulated, these nerves cause a dull ache or feeling of fullness in the muscle. The stimulated muscle sends a message to the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord), causing the release of endorphins (morphine-like chemicals produced in our own bodies during times of pain or stress). Endorphins, along with other neurotransmitters (body chemicals that modify nerve impulses), block the message of pain from being delivered up to the brain. Although acupuncture is not a "cure-all" treatment, it is very effective in treating several diseases and conditions. Acupuncture is most effective at treating chronic pain, such as headaches; menstrual cramps; and low back, neck, or muscle pain. It can also be used to treat arthritis, facial pain, pain from shingles, and spastic colon and colitis conditions.

Q: What is an alternative to noninflammatory drugs for arthritis?
I have tried them all and my poor stomach is beginning to feel the toll. I have used perscription and nonperscription drugs. None of them keeps me from hurting long. Does anyone have any suggestions? My doctor has told me that cortisone injuctions will be next and I really do not want to go on steroids. Help!!!

A: I am doing a Master´s Degree in Chinese Medicine and we have a lot of patients in clinic with your problems. They are all sick of the pills and try acupuncture and Chinese Herbs. Some of them really show amazing results from not being able to walk because the pain is so strong to walking out of the clinic by themselves. We can also not cure this disease totally but at least we can keep our patients pain free for a good while and maintain a big part of their normal life. Good luck for your health.

Q: What can a person do to control rheumatoid arthritis without drugs?

A: Check out the webiste listed below; also, check with your local Chiropractor for some great help with RA.

Q: Home remedies or over the counter drugs for arthritis.?
With the colder weather my dog seems to have trouble getting up. I can tell she's in pain and she limps for a few seconds when she gets up. Is there a home remedie or over the counter drug I can give her to help with her arthritus? She's a 16 year old Chow.

A: Salmon Oil! It is an excellent anti-inflamitory, and I have personally seen it work amazingly for arthridic dogs. I use Grizzly Salmon Oil, and depending on weight, you just put a few pumps right onto their food, my dogs love it! Also, adding a NATURAL source of glucosamine and chondroitin will help as well. If you use a source that is made from cartilage (ie- chicken or bovine) their bodies absorb ALOT more than the hci. and sulfate forms. This will help rehydrate her joints and regenerate joint tissue. Good luck! ADDED: The only over the counter pain med you should use is called Ascriptin. It is enteric-coated asprin, so it prevents ulcerations of the stomache. tey the natural route first. Remadyll is a last resort.

Q: which arthritis drugs are causing cancer in youths?
Over the counter drugs are blamed for causing cancer in kids and young adults This was a page three article in the Ottawa Times A Illinois paper Sorry that should have been page two. The article originated from Washington with the FDA as the sourse

A: These are not over the counter drugs, but ones prescribed for young people suffering from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis or Crohns disease. The drugs under suspicion are: Remicade (infliximab), Enbrel (etancercept), Humira (adalimumab), Cimzia (certolizumab pegol) and Simponi (golimumab). http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm175803.htm For Immediate Release: Aug. 4, 2009 Consumer Inquiries: 888-INFO-FDA FDA: Cancer Warnings Required for TNF Blockers The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is requiring stronger warnings in the prescribing information for a class of drugs known as TNF blockers. The warnings, which include an updated boxed warning, highlight the increased risk of cancer in children and adolescents who receive these drugs to treat juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, the inflammatory bowel disorder, Crohn’s disease, and other inflammatory diseases. In addition, the FDA is working with manufacturers to explore new ways to further define the risk of cancer in children and adolescents who use these drugs. TNF blockers target and neutralize tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), a protein that, when overproduced in the body due to chronic inflammatory diseases, can cause inflammation and damage to bones, cartilage and tissue. The drugs in this class include Remicade (infliximab), Enbrel (etancercept), Humira (adalimumab), Cimzia (certolizumab pegol) and Simponi (golimumab). Today’s action is based on the completion of an investigation first announced by the FDA in June 2008. An analysis of U.S. reports of cancer in children and adolescents treated with TNF-blockers showed an increased risk of cancer, occurring after 30 months of treatment on average. About half of the cancers were lymphomas, a type of cancer involving cells of the immune system. Some of the reported cancers were fatal. Additional required updates to the prescribing information include incorporation of reports of psoriasis associated with the use of TNF blockers.

Q: Is there anyone who has found a way of curing or treating their rheumatoid arthritis without drugs ? Thank yo
I currently take natural products like mangosteen juice and shilajit to help with the inflammation, as well as extra vitamins and fish oils etc, but I would like to get the bottom of the disease if possible.

A: Bee Royal Jelly has been used for years to successfully treat arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Q: My 14 year old dog has cushing’s disease and arthritis what drugs can he take for arthritis?

A: You should be able to talk to your vet about this- as he will have more information about medications that can be taken with the cushings medication. My dog was on a fantastic product called "sashas blend" for her arthritis. She also had diabetes, and this did not interfere with her medication. Sashas blend is made from natural ingredients, and it worked fantastically to help my dog. She had arthritis from when she was about 2 because she was hit by a car as a pup (before we got her) she went on the mix for a couple of months- then didnt need it again until she was much older. http://www.sashasblend.com.au/ Here is some info on it- I definately recommend it to anyone- I have seen it change many dogs lives around. good luck!

Q: I have very painful arthritis, any suggestions other than drugs?
The cold weather is really causing my joints to ache. Do you know of any natural remedies.

A: You do not state what TYPE of Arthritis! With over 100 types, it is important to name the type.

Q: What makes economists lump bridges, arthritis drugs, and songs together?
why is the competitive market unable to achieve efficient results with these?

A: The answer to your first question is that all these things cost money to make and have some means of determining payback. As for your second question, I dispute your premise. A competitive market can achieve efficient results with bridges, arthritis drugs and songs. Bridge contracts can be determined with competitive bidding, drugs are certainly subject to competition and songs are sold by several retailers, which is slowly driving costs lower. Do you have examples to support your premise?

Q: question about rheumatoid arthritis drugs?
Has anyone had a reaction to embrel, I was throwing up and had diarrhea, and was shivering cold about an hour after I took it.

Q: I have a 15yr old cat who has arthritis , how can this be treated, without heavy drugs?
Can glucosamine help and what type and how much in a dose?

A: I have personal experience with both a cat and a dog improving greatly on Glucosamine. Because I worked in the dietary supplements field I knew which were the better brands. One of them, BioChem has a good product in capsules. Capsules are great because you can easily open them and divide doses. In this case, the caps are 500 mg each, so you would need to divide for a cat. Off the top of my head I do not remember the cat's dosage, but for the first month or so we doubled it up. Refer to the poster who provided dose. About that time the cat had begun to improve so we reduced by half to the standard cat dose. I totally recommend you try it. Bear in mind it does not work overnight. You may need to wait a month or more to see improvement. The exact product used was BioChem Glucosamine+ Chondroitin Formula. Better to buy online if the shipping isn't high as the discount some online retailers offer is substantial. I do hope your cat improves.
