Q: What's the difference between Synvisc and Synvisc One? Why would Dr choose one over the other?
Is Synvisc One more concentrated? Are there better results with one or the other? Does it have anything to do with patients' size or weight? Is it simply a matter of convenience? My referring MD wants me to have Synvisc One because it's cheaper. I'm small, didn't do well at all with cortisone inj, and I want the best possible result in hopes of deferring surgery for some time.

A: I think that it is just a cost thing, I don't think that there is any real difference. I wish you the best of luck for me the shots where a complete WASTE of money and I will never try them again, now for my mom they worked great!

Q: HELP My sister is in need of Synvisc but her insurance company refuses to pay. Any Suggestions?
She works in a dry cleaner and stands on her feet 7-9 hours per day. She doesnot have the money to pay for these shots. Synvisc is needed for her knee Please help.

A: It depends on the reason(s) her insurer won't pay. Regardless, she or her doctor should send a written appeal to the insurer that disputes the basis for the refusal. After an appeal decision has been reached, if the insurer upholds its denial, she or her doctor should contact her state's insurance commissioner in writing. The commissioner's office will investigate to see whether or not the insurer must pay for the treatment. I'm sorry I can't give you more detailed advice, but without knowing the exact reason the insurer denied the drug, it's difficult. You can send me a message through Yahoo Answers with more details and I'll help you however I can.

Q: what happens if synvisc injections in the knee do not work?
hi IAM 29YRS OLD I injured the cartilage in my knee a few years ago and i have been having problems ever since.i seen an orthopedic surgeon and he suggested synvisc injection,i had my first last week and has made my knee worse. I do alot of manual work and i think its going to affect me alot as i get older, because its v.sore now

A: My Mom injured her knee and had those done to keep from having a knee replavement .She had to have a series of three or four before they were considered a complete series of injections.. She was very sore when she had each injection done but once they were all done and time had to settle in to the area to work she is so much better. But they are not for everyone as I am sure your doctor has told you. I also injured my knee and my doc did not recommend them in my case. I am sure your doc would not have suggested it had he not felt it was right for you.

Q: How does Hyalgan compare to Synvisc?
I have had Synvisc shots in the past. What is the difference with Hyalgan and how does it react with the Synvisc shots I've had.

A: They are basically the same product. The Synvisc takes three injects to complete the series while the Hyalgan can be given up to six times. The end result is the same.

Q: If synvisc injections in the knee work,do you need to get them every year for the rest of your life ?
Hello I damaged my knee a few years ago and my cartilage has worn away. The orthopedic surgeon suggested synvisc injections. I am on my 2rd injection and there is no difference, still very sore.I was told i would need a knee replacement in the near future. My knee is restricting me from running/exercise slowing me down at work. constant pain. whats it going to be like when i get older???? I AM 29YRS OLD.

A: Well Synvisc is a 3 injection series. If after the 3rd injection your knee does not improve you may try this option: Tanezumab in Osteoarthritis of the Knee This study is currently recruiting participants. Q: How to Synvisc shots for arthritis work?

A: they work all right...just they are not consistent. I think it's the way the medicine is made but they work well to begin with but fade off a little later. i wouldn't recommend Synvisc shots for long term use..but if it's short term then i'd recommend it. The relief is fast just it's not long lasting. hope it helps

Q: Has anyone ever had a reaction to Synvisc?
I recently had a series of 3 injections in my knee and developed a severe chemical sensitivity problem. I am now allergic to petroleum products, plastic, formaldyhyde, etc.

A: My wife had a severe allergic reaction to her third set of injections. Worst pain imaginable and took 2 weeks to fade.

Q: Is HYLAN G-F 20 (SYNVISC) safe and effective for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis?
my patient is on insulin for diabetes and has left bundle branch block. Her right knee is painful and swollen and xray showed severe osteoarthritis. Will Synvisc injection help?

A: Synvisc is fairly safe, but not always effective. Sometimes even with the cortisone boosters, it doesn't help. Total knee replacement surgery is a very real possibility. There are three injections to a series and most insurance companies make you wait six months between series. That's when you get cortisone boosters. If Synvisc hasn't helped by the second series, in all honesty, it probably won't.

Q: synvisc? this is suppposed to help sufferers of knee pain? have you used it and if so did it help?
says its mostly used for sufferers of osto arthritus! but it also helps poeple with no cusioning in the knees! just curious as to if this is a good thing or what? what it is exaclty and how it works? as well as if state medical insurance would cover it?

A: The idea being that hyaluronic acid is one of the body's lubricating molecules makes this plausible. If you're up for injections into your knee, I don't see how it would hurt. Over the counter supplements are available also, although I'm sure they're not as bioavailable as shooting the stuff right into your knee. Glucosamine and chondroitin supplements are often recommended for knee pain. Have you tried either of those? Also, if the pain is from inflammation, over the counter ibuprofen/naproxen/aspirin might help. My favorite is naproxen. The final answer as to insurance coverage, as with any insurance question is to call the number on the back of your card. They are the ultimate authority as to whether or not any particular drug or service is covered, and will be able to give a much quicker and more accurate answer than any of us ever would be able to.

Q: how long do you need to wait after a cortizone shot to have a synvisc shot?

A: Always consult your doctor. Three weeks ought to be adequate.

Q: can synvisc be used on shoulders?
Bad shoulder pain in the joint, will synvisc work there?

A: Depending on the type of problem that you are experiencing the answer is yes. If the problem is related to the loss of cartilage or severe damage to it then it would be appropriate. The only problem is that first it is expensive and I don't believe that the government considers it as a treatment for the shoulder but still an experimental treatment and therefore it is not covered by insurance. Talk to your orthopedist about this. The greatest effect of the injections will not take place for some six weeks after the shots are given so don't expect immediate results though that can also happen. Hope that helps!

Q: Does anyone have experience with SynVisc injected into their ankle?
My doctor is telling me that it is proven for knees but not approved yet for ankles. I would love to know if anyone has any experience or knows of anyone that had it injected into their ankles. Thanks.

Q: Anyone had hip injection with Synvisc?
I have had one corticosteroid injection which only relieved pain for about 4 weeks. I'm starting a new job, after being unemployed for 6 months and cannot afford to take time off for the surgery of a hip replacement. Please share your results with me. Thank you.

A: I am a nurse so I can speak to this from a medical and a personal stand point. Synvisc is a very good temporary synovial fluid replacement. my boyfriend had it done for his knee and it kept him working for a year and a half before he had to have the surgery. I am sure that you know what it does and the theory behind how it works. I would recommend having it done, it may serve your purpose for awhile, I would do it after you are insured on your new companies group insurance if you have any though. If you have the injection prior to coverage and then have surgery in the next year they will probably consider it a pre-existing condition and refuse to pay for the surgery. Good luck, hope this helped.

Q: do the synvisc shots help with bone spurs in the knee?
I had these shots for arthritic inflammation but supposedly the pain I still have is caused by bone spurs

A: I've had synvisc shots in the knees too (but for floating knee-caps) Man, did they hurt going in! Sinvisc is made to increase the lubrication and cushion in your joints, for some people, it makes the pain totally go away, for others (like me) it just lessens the pain. I'd imagine for bone spurs it could help reduce the pain, but may not completely get rid of it. Sorry your living with knee pain - you have my empathy. Try looking up Knee1, on the internet BTW, they have a pretty good forum, and resources of information for knee problems.
