Q: Is Clarithromycin ER antibiotics a medicine to treat Chlaymidia in men?
I'd say it's no doubt about Chlaymidia and I have some leftover Clarithromycin ER 500MG - is this a possible treatment for Chlaymidia? I know that there are better alternatives such as Doxycycline but to save a trip to the Dr. office. If anyone can help it would be most appreciated. Thanks.

A: CLARITHROMYCIN (Biaxin) is an antibiotic. Clarithromycin kills certain bacteria or stops their growth. It treats ear, lung, sinus, throat and skin infections. This medicine is also is used to treat a certain bacteria that can cause stomach ulcers. Clarithromycin will not work for colds or flu. I LOVE this antibiotic. It saved my life in 2003--I was on it for 1 year. On it NOW because of sinus infection. Am surprised side effects worse now--had NONE for the year I took it. But will always love Clarithromycin (Biaxin) & works GREAT!!! Actually, both times I've ordered Clarithromycin through reputable UK http://www.pharmacynextdoor.com drugstore, they do not require any prescription for any medication they sell, so check with them and might be you will be able to get some Doxycycline, that way u'll save a trip to ur doctor. Good luck.

Q: Is it alright to drink while taking Clarithromycin 500mg?
I have a party tonight, and wondering what would happen if I drunk alcohol?

A: It is fine to drink. Aside from a handful of medications, it is fine to drink some alcohol. However I would try not to get terribly drunk but a few is completely fine and even if you did get extremely drunk it would not be terrible. Just use good judgment. And like the other guy said, be sure to take the medication as often as you should, which is assume is 500 mg twice daily. Have fun

Q: How long does an ear infection take to get better while taking clarithromycin tablets?
I have had an ear infection for the last 5 days the doctor give me these tablets for it 4 days ago but they dont seem to be workin and i feel like i am getting worse with it please help

A: i am a nurse and have previous experience with ear probs.. for a start they're not a very good anti biotic for ear infections, you need a 250mg dose of amoxocillian, that will clear it in a couple of days, but you should also keep a small ball of cotton wool in your ear during this time to protect it from further infection, from cold etc...keep your ears well out of the water, and you should never use cotton buds to clean them anyway, but do not make any attempt to clean them until infection has cleared up...hope this helps..get well soon.x

Q: How long does it take for antibiotics (Clarithromycin) to work?
Hi I have been given these antibiotics 3 days ago for swollen neck gland. Today is the third day, I’m not feeling better, and I now also have tonsillitis. Not sure if tonsillitis is related to swollen gland, but should I carry on with the same antibiotics or go back to the doc ask for different antibiotics. Thanks I have been having a high fever for 3 days... and the fever is not going away either

A: I can only answer your question with a set of statistics. between 50 and 80% of all antibiotics, prescribed for all apparent indications are unnecessary. A lymph gland is a sign rather than a disease and doctors should not treat signs, but diseases. A sore throat may cause a lymph gland to become enlarged, this is a helpful part of your body's defence system rather than something that needs treated. 85% of all sore throats are viral and will never be affected by any antibiotic. Clarithromycin is a potent broad spectrum antibiotic. If a sore throat has all 4 of the criteria that suggest it MAY be bacterial, ( fever, exudate, tender anterior glands and absence of cough,) the antibiotic of choice should be penicillin V. This is narrow spectrum and thus it reduces the risk of causing antibiotic resistance.

Q: Is it safe to drink alcohol while taking Clorom (Clarithromycin) tablets?
I was just wondering as I'm attending the trinity ball on friday and forgot to ask my GP if i could or not!

A: Well Clorom is not used in the U.S. but I am aware that the active ingredient is Clarithromycin as you said. Of course the safest advice is of course not to take prescription drugs with alcohol. But, Clarithromycin is not known to interact with alcohol. There are no reported interactions. It does not produce the disulfiram type reaction that some medications do when mixed with alcohol. That being said the medication is hypothetically safe to take with alcohol, but if you're sick enough to be on antibiotics you probably shouldn't be drinking alcohol until you are better.

Q: Has anyone ever taken Biaxin/Clarithromycin? How did it affect your stomach?
I think it increased my appetite and feeling of hypoglycemia because after I eat I get this feeling like my stomach already emptied and I get these horrible cramps that resemble hunger pains. I'm confused though...I thought it's supposed to make you nauseated...anyone ever experience this??

A: it made me nauseated, it is supposed to mess with your stomach a little bit, I ate mine on an empty stomach, as per directions, but the feeling you describe is not one Im familiar with, maybe your body just reacts differently?

Q: what can i do about darrhea caused by taking antibiotic clarithromycin?
i was thinking about imodium but this is an advisory for it What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Imodium? Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Imodium, or if you have: if you have diarrhea that is caused by taking an antibiotic.

A: talk to the doctor to see if they want to change it, but in the mean time these things can help with it - plain white rice, yogurt, bananas hope you feel better!
