Q: do you know about levofloxacin for typhoid?
After Ihad blood test, the doctor said that I got a thyphoid. And the doctor gave me a receipt to buy levofloxacin. Is it right levofloxacin for typhoid?
A: Typhoid fever is a systemic disease caused by Salmonella typhi. Symptoms are high fever, prostration, abdominal pain, and a rose-colored rash. Diagnosis is clinical and confirmed by culture. Treatment is with ceftriaxone or ciprofloxacin. (Merck)
Typhoid fever in most cases is not fatal. However, in some cases it is. Antibiotics, such as ampicillin, chloramphenicol, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and ciprofloxacin, have been commonly used to treat typhoid fever in developed countries. Prompt treatment of the disease with antibiotics reduces the case-fatality rate to approximately 1%.

Q: what is the effect of oral contraceptives when taking levofloxacin?
is there apossiblity to get pregnant when taking a strong antibiotic like levofloxacin?
A: Yes!!! Taking antibiotics while taking oral contraceptives can make them not work. Always use another type of contraceptive (condoms, foam, etc) while on antibiotics for safety. I have several friends that have gotten pregnant that way.
Q: Difference between levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin?
I read that levofloxacin cures chlamydia but i read cipro was not as effective. why is this?
A: Cipro stops the growth of bacteria, but does not necessarily kill it off as well.
I suggest Bactrim.
Q: Is 100mg Levofloxacin 3X/day for 1week an effective treament for Chlamydia?
I have not been satisfied with the medical treatment i have received while living abroad. I'm seriously considering returning to a "Western" nation if I am not better soon. I believe I have Chlamydia, due to the exact symtoms for that disease arising a few days after unprotected sex.
Doctors here took samples and couldn't find the cause of my symptoms and have said that it may be a urinary tract infection, or some other cause. I am convinced it is Chlamydia, though of course I could certainly be wrong.
A few weeks ago I was prescribed 100mg Doxycycline once daily. This did not cure me, and through research on the internet I found that it should be taken twice daily to cure Chlamydia.
So, if anyone with knowledge of this new medication (Levofloxacin 100mg) could tell me if the regimen I have been prescribed will be effective for either Chlamydia or a urinary tract infection, I would greatly appreciate it.
A: Levofloxacin CAN treat and cure a chlamydia infection. Usually doxycycline (2 or 3 times daily) or a single dose of azithromycin (Z-Pack) is used though.
Also, levofloxacin doesn't come in 100mg tablet. There is a 250mg tablet and a 500mg tablet.
You may also want to get tested for gonorrhea. Almost half the people who have chlamydia also have gonorrhea. They kind of go hand in hand. Good luck!
Q: 29 yr old pregnant lady having community acquired pneumonia. Is IV Levofloxacin 500mg Q24HRS for 10 days good?
a 29 yr old pregnant lady gets community acquired pneumonia . she is taking materna multivitamins from past 4 months. If doctor writes IV levofloxacin500 mg Q24HRS for 10 days then is it ok? Is levofloxacin good for her? or any other safer alternative can be given to her please explain?
A: Med student?? ;)
Levofloxacin is a BAD choice. Levofloxacin is not recommended for use in pregnant women since levofloxacin causes joint and bone deformities in juvenile animals of several species. It hasn't been tried on pregnant women for obvious reasons.
A better choice would be Augmentin. That is what I, personally, would use to treat. Her pneumonia is most likely caused by S. pneumoniae or H. influenzae. MOST of the time, both organisms are sensitive to augmentin. So if you don't have the option to culture her sputum and check sensitivities, then I would trust that augmentin would do the job. And it's safe for pregnant women!
Any more questions, feel free to email me. Good luck!

Q: Interactions between tizanidine and levofloxacin?
I'm taking Zanaflex (tizanidine) for back pain, and I have to take antibiotics for a severe cold I have. The antibiotic that I'm taking is levofloxacin which apparently has some interaction. Is this something I should be worried about? Should I change antibiotics? The thing is, once you start treatment with an antibiotic you're not suppose to stop it or change it. So I'm not sure. Help anyone...
A: Call the pharmacy where you filled your prescription. Explain to the pharmacist that you are taking both of these medications. He/She should be able to tell you the interactions....and if it is minor or something needs to be changed. If it is an interaction that needs to be avoided, your pharmacist should be able to contact your physician and get you a different medication......even if you are in the middle of a round of antibiotics.
Hope this helps!
Q: what are the sideeffects of levofloxacin for 80 years old heart patient?
A: Levofloxacin is an antibiotic used for pretty substantial infections, so most doctors won't prescribe it without good reason, and it may be used to prevent infections, particularly in cardiac patients. Here are the major side effects:
Nausea, stomach ache, loss of appetite, diarrhea, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, trouble sleeping, sun sensitivity, joint/muscle pain/swelling, chest pain, change in the amount of urine, dark urine, easy bruising/bleeding, fainting, fast/irregular heartbeat, mental/mood changes (e.g., suicidal thought or severe depression), numbness/tingling, persistent nausea/vomiting, persistent sore throat or fever, seizures, unusual fatigue, yellowing eyes and skin.
This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition (pseudomembranous colitis) due to a resistant bacteria
Hope this helps! :)
Q: Will Levofloxacin clear up acne?
It works to remove bacteria from the body would it help to kill acne from the inside?
It looked like it was going away while I was taking it.
A: I am taking Levofoaxacin too, for a sinus infection. Expensive stuff. I had it prescribed to me three times for various upper respiratory ailments because it is much better on the digestive tract than most antibiotics. I was wondering the same thing about acne and I asked the doctor this last time about that and they said it will most likely have no effect on acne. If any, it would be slight and that would probably be because when you have a healthy immune system, you usually have a clearer complexion. It does treat other skin problems like infected wounds and stuff but those are caused by a strep bacteria instead of acne vulgaris which is totally different. For acne, the best antibiotics are tetracycline and doxycycline but they are too harsh on my stomach so I can't take them. Here is a link about Levaquin, the brand name version of Levofloaxacin. I hope it answers your questions somewhat. Get well. I hope I get well too.
Q: whats a pill called levofloxacin used for it says take 1 daily?
A: This medication is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Levofloxacin belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
This antibiotic only treats bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
There is a huge list of things it can be used to treat. You can view the things here:

Q: combination of streptomycin, combutol, levofloxacin is effective to treat tb?
A: Medication Choices
Multiple-drug therapy to treat TB usually involves taking 4 antibiotics at the same time. This is the standard treatment for active TB. The 4 most commonly chosen medications are:6
Isoniazid.
Rifampin.
Pyrazinamide.
Ethambutol.
Doctors will sometimes use other medications if treatment isn't effective or if it is known that the person has a drug-resistant case. Other medication choices include:6
Streptomycin (STM).
Ethionamide (Trecator-SC).
Cycloserine (Seromycin).
Capreomycin (Capastat Sulfate).
so the answer is no, it doesn't sound like antibiotics that fight it
Q: dose of levofloxacin in respiratory infections?
A: Levaquin is the brand name of this drug and is one of the more common, stronger antibiotics being prescribed. Most doctors will prescribe 500 mg once daily for 5-7 days for minor infections and 750 mg daily for 7-10 or even 14 days for more sever infections. It is a very efficient drug- but it is very expensive, somewhere around $10.00 a pill, no generic form is available. Used alot in hospitals for IV therapy of respiratory infections (pneumonia) in combinations with other meds.
Q: My sister put on Levofloxacin for 7 days will it cure her 2 infections?
Hi there,
I just got out of spending 2 days in the emerg ward because my sister couldn't walk and was so weak she had to be held up to go to the bathroom! They had put her on one Antibiotic it started with a C, then she seemed worse at home. I took her back in by ambulance. The doctors had told me she had a bad urinary tract infection and and very badly fungused infected toenail at the same time! They gave her 7 Levofloxacin and ordered to one a day for a week.By the second day of taking this she seemed to improve VERY rapidly by 50%, second day she was improved I'd say 90% and now she seems stronger then me! This has all happened so fast with her recovery I'm scared it's too good to be true, will she STAY better? Will this likely be enough?(The 7 day Levofloxacin prescription) I'm scared she'll get sick again after it runs out.Thank you so much for any help
A: Well it sounds like your doctor got lucky this time. What he should have done from the beginning was to run a urine culture test to find out if it was a gram positive or gram negative infection first. You see UTIs are caused by bacteria and not all bacteria are the same in fact they are all different. UTI's can be caused by different bacteria and depending one what type it is one antibiotic will not work at all on it where as another will. Running the proper tests are the only way to find out which one to use. Most doctors will do the test. However some will just guess and see if you respond to one treatment and if you don't then they will put you on another. antibiotic. Levofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is also VERY POWERFUL it is used to treat life threatening infections. It is in the same family as Ciprofloxacin which is used to treat Anthrax. Your sister should have seen an IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENT on Levofloxacin. Don't worry that its to good to be true she should have seen as immediate improvment. Also make sure your sister doesn't drink or take anything with caffeine such as coffee as Levofloxacin will interfere with the metabolism of caffeine which could cause a caffeine overdose so NO CAFFEINE make sure she goes to the doctor after her treatment and ask them to do a urine culture to make sure that the infection is gone.
