Q: How to use differential differences and DSM-IV-TR together to diagnosis mood disorder/ drug abuse?
I need to know how to diagnosis a client who shows the symptons of mood disorder and with possible history of drug abuse using the differential difference and DSM-IV-TR coding system together

A: Hmm. Well if you are looking for some drugs for the client I highly suggest these: · Anafranil** · Asendin · Aventyl · Desyrel · Effexor · Elavil · Ludiomil · Luvox (SSRI) · Marplan (MAOI) · Nardil (MAOI) · Norpramin · Pamelor · Parnate (MAOI) · Paxil (SSRI) · Pertofrane · Prozac (SSRI) · Remeron · Serzone · Sinequan · Surmontin · Tofranil** · Vivactil · Wellbutrin · Zoloft (SSRI) If you are not looking for drugs put the client under psychotherapy. Good Luck! Sincerly, Jordan

Q: do you think antidepressants or mood disorder drugs cause people commit suicide when they stop taking them?

A: Stopping antidepressants abruptly causes a discontinuation syndrome. Other than a hell of a headache, discontinuation involves worsening depression (like worse than the depression you had before you started taking antidepressants). So, yes, it is possible. You should always consult your doctor before stopping medication and always insist on frequent follow-up.

Q: Aren't people who see psychiatrists and told they need drugs for a mood disorder not likely to see the risks?
Aren't the people who see psychiatrists and told they need psychiatric drugs for a mood disorder not likely to know what negative effects drugs can have? ...and MDs are likely NOT to tell anyone about the negative side effects because they want the patient to comply with treatment, yes? If these people are more or less desperate and want the drug to work will they really care or will they be more vulnerable? If you have no clue what I'm talking about: 1. Paxil http://www.enthalpy.net/archives/000028.html 2. Lexapro http://www.anxiety-and-depression-solutions.com/articles/conventional/pharmaceutical/lexapro.php 3. http://www.theroadback.org/lexapro_side_effects.htm (scroll down page) 4. Zoloft http://www.pdrhealth.com/drugs/rx/rx-mono.aspx?contentFileName=Zol1503.html&contentName=Zoloft&contentId=66 (scroll down to "special warnings") 5. http://www.antidepressantadversereactions.com/ 6. http://depression.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://journals.apa.org/prevention/volume5/pre0050023a.html Gin&Colonic: But you may not be the typical desperate person with modest education. Mina: Why are you assuming that someone just diagnosed with a mood disorder can act so rationally? Christopher: If you truly have multiple psychiatric pathologies, it is highly unlikely that a psychiatrist sat you down for three hours and discussed the risks associated with any drug. Highly unlikely. Christopher: To have to see 25 doctors and 17 psychiatrists only proves something is seriously wrong with the biological approach.

A: Well, I get my psych meds from WalMart pharmacy here in the US, & along with the meds, they give you papers, explaining the cautions, side effects, & what happens in accidental overdose. Now, I was just reading yesterday. With a medicine like Wellbutrin XL, 300 mg, if it's an ANTI-depressant, then why are 1 of the side effects "increased risk of suicidal thoughts or suicide"? What that doozie? & meds like this make you more depressed than you already are, & they give you all sorts of physical symptoms & increased anxiety. No wonder why I feel that my meds don't help!

Q: weight gain from drugs for bipolar/psychotic/mood disorders?
I have trouble with horrendous mood swings. I am a 47 year old female. They had diagnosed me as bipolar, but lithium, depacote, nothing worked, but I gained weight like crazy. I didn't really fit the profile for bipolar other than mood swings (no spending sprees, no promiscuity, etc.). The doctor tried Risperdal and it worked! I felt normal for the first time in years. Then they took a prolactin test, it was 37.7, and normal is 1-20, so he took me off and put me on Seroquel. I am on a therapeutic dose, no relief, still mood swings like crazy and MORE weight gain. Some days I eat nothing at all, and I still gain (and still act crazy). I would like to go back to Risperdal if that number is not completely out of the question. At least if I have to be 30 pounds heavier, I don't have mood swings with the Risperdal. Anyone have any luck with these or other drugs for mood swings, and what did you do about the weight gain? I feel HORRIBLE!

A: I take the seroqual and they gave me Tofranil Pm, Its a mood stabilizer. I have had great results with them. unfortunatley, most antipsycotics/antidepressants cause weight gain. It sucks. I haven't gained much weight but then again I don't get hungry either. But NOT eating can actually make you gain weight. Talk to your doctor about your concerns at your next visit. As far as loosing the weight I drink alot of ice tea (its a natural diuretic- loose water weight) and I try to eat small meals through out the day, even if i'm not really hungry.... Good Luck!

Q: I suffer from bipolar mood disorder, skitso affective disorder and they say I am a socio psycopath, cure please?
I have lived with these disorders for the last seven years using medication to contrl my mood and keep me from getting to nervous or aggresive, I suffer from a anger management problem the doctors say it is a result of my disorders, I would like to know if there are any herbal medication to replace all the drugs

A: Oh, dear, just because you have a mood disorder it does not mean you lack a conscience or you`re purposely vicious.I have bipolar1, GAD, and ADHD, and I`m not a sociopath. AND, yes, I take meds, BECAUSE, I know I need to.They have all kinds of research out there proving that these illnesses are in fact only managed with medication. Herbs and psychotherapy will not help, meds are needed. If you`re not being managed with meds, than you need to go back to your doctor and get your meds increased or changed. I`m being put on another set of drugs again because I`m not coping with my current drug cocktail. Do you even know what a sociopath is? Google before labelling yourself.

Q: Do certrain Anti-depressants and mood stabilizing drugs stop the contraceptive pill from working?
My partner is on the contraceptive pill its not the mini-pill its the other one, she also was diagnosed with a mental disorder and takes a drug named deprakot she is now pregnant is this been down to her medication? Please note I administer all her midication she has not missed any of her pills it was the pyciatrist who put her own the anti-depressants he did not ask her if she was taking the pill, we think he should have and if he should have established this I plan to take legal action, would I be right in doing so?

A: Depakote can cause abnormal, lighter, heavier, less frequent or more frequent bleeding, or skipped periods. Depakote can even increase hormonal levels. Sometimes it is necessary to adjust the contraceptive use so that the patient doesn't have too much of the contraceptive in their body. She needs to seek advice from her doctor about continuing the use of depakote during pregnancy. This medication can cause harm to an unborn baby. It is unlikely that the Depakote stopped the pill working, remember that there are many, many reasons why the contraceptive pill fails - sickness, diarrhoea, missing a does, taking a dose late. In my experience, patients with mood disorders are not usually very efficient with taking medication. Note: If you make a claim for compensation, you would be unlikely to win. It is the patients responsibility to inform any prescribing medication that they are on other medication (including over the counter medication). It is highly unlikely that you'd find a solicitor to take on your case. In the patient leaflet that came with her Depakote will be this statement: "Before taking Sodium Valproate make sure your doctor or pharmacist knows: ... if you are taking any other medicines, including those available to buy without a prescription, herbal and complementary medicines".

Q: what do you think about drug ads for mood disorder? ( depression & bipolar)?

A: I hate them.

Q: Are Mood-Altering Or Mind-Altering Pharmaceutical Drugs The New Cigarettes?
Have pharmaceutical companies promoted the notion that every little negative thought, feeling, or reaction is somehow a symptom of "mental illness" "depression" or some new, never-before-heard-of "disorder", simply in order to push their product - mood and mind-altering drugs? Is this why so many people, nowadays, are classified as "mentally ill", "disturbed", or "depressed"? Discuss.

A: pharmaceutical companies and their campaigns aside, mental illness, being depression, schizophrenia, or whatever has been shoved under the rug and considered a stigma for so long, and unfairly so, that now that it has been brought out in the open and accepted is, in my opinion, a very good thing. A little common sense on the part of the population is called for here. People know when what they are experiencing is beyond the norm for them....and they are right to seek treatment if that is the case. Back to the pharmaceutical companies, thank god they have done the research and development on all the new ways to treat mental illness. That they are businesses and as such need to make a profit is perfectly acceptable. However, the pharmacies out there that mark up the cost of medication, sometimes over 800% are gouging the public unnecessarily and need to be curbed in this incredible and greedy effort to make their own profit off the misery of our people.

Q: is it a mood disorder?
i'm corncerned about my sister, she's 17 now but she's starting to show alarming behaviour... i can remember since she was a little girl she always threatened to kill herself and pointed the knife towards herself, she use to steal stuff from the local store when she was 8 and she killed a puppy by stepping on it several times and then afterwards saying sorry over and over, its kinda scary actually for an 8 year old... she started cutting herself at 12 and still does, her arms look like a chopping board... she always have had trouble with comunicating, she burst into tears a lot in class because she became overwhelmed with something she cant handle, like plays and simple tests.. she had bulimia at 15 and her eating habbits are constantly changing, she's got even lower self esteem now and she still struggles comunicating with people, she's always the quiet girl, she complains that she cant think of what to say when she's around people because she gets really nervous, she has done several drugs since she was 15 and now it looks like she's becoming addicted to pot but my parents caught her on drugs at 16 so she quit all except for pot and painkillers, she smokes several times a day, but she was like this before she started doing any drugs... she's obsessed with suicide and death, she draws and writes a lot about it and wears all black, her appearance has changed, she only makes herself look good when she goes to her boyfriend but when she's home she lets herself go, she cries a lot for no apparent reason and usually when i see her she looks so sad.. she's also sometimes awake for two days straight, without doing drugs.. she has these strange mood swings, she'll go through a full month of loafing and sadness then she'll change to a sudden hyperactive mode, speaking faster than anyone can understand her and speaking the whole time, but then she also doesnt seem with it, like she's in another world, sometimes she gets aggresive or irritable and she gets irrational, picking fights for reasons that seem stupid, she looks like she's screaming silently in anxiety.. but then she'll switch into this slow, sad, angry mood and then bam, she's normal again... this happened over the weekend, she switched between these three moods the whole time... she has asked my parents for help several times, but they want her to snap out of it... my parents are going threw a difficult time, since my dad cheated and my mother has bipolar disorder and she's an alcoholic, they dont give much attention to the kids... my sister is actually a good kid, but im afraid if this goes on longer i might loose her, i need to know whats wrong with her.. is it possible that she might have a mood disorder?

A: Those are definitely signs and symptoms of a personality disorder, if not several. I'm a nursing student.. not a doctor, or an expert.. so I can't diagnose or anything... But her behavior seems reflect that of Bi-Polar disorder. This disorder is characterized by extreme highs and extreme lows in mood; deep depression, sadness and hopelessness, and then manic, impulsive episodes. Marilyn Monroe had bi-polar disorder. Your sister definitely needs help as soon as possible. A disorder like this will not resolve itself without help from psycho-therapeutic medications, or the help of a psychiatrist or psychologist. You need to do something now. You need to look for resources in your community, and call them and ask them what to do. (Family doctor, psychiatric hospital, teen help clinic etc.) Your sister might say that she doesn't want help, and may try to resist any attempts you make to help her, but don't listen to her. If you love and care about her you need to do what is best for her. Sometimes it is really hard to accept the fact that you have a mental/ mood disorder, and so sometimes people are in denial about, or are too embarrassed to accept that they need psychiatric help. You need to take the right approach in talking to her about this; this is something that you need a professional to give you advice on) but you need to tell her things to make her understand that she isn't alone in feeling the way she does, and that she can get help and be happy. But seriously, if you don't do something she could be at risk for suicide. She's lucky that she has a sister like you who cares about her though. You can email me jenniexxbee@yahoo.ca if you have any questions or anything, and I would be happy to help you. Good luck :)

Q: if marijuana can not be used to treat debilitating mood disorder?
why have i found proof that docters prescribe it to people for this purpose in the presant day, and in the past. it has helped some, and not helped some, just like other prescription drugs some times they work for the person and some times it does not. help me i am confuesed. why does the general public think they no so much about marijuana, do they allso no every thing about the other drugs that the doctors are prescribing to people, side effects, and what they can do to your body. no they dont, but if you ask alot of people about marijuana they no it all, why is this.

A: You have made a very interesting point which i guess can only be put down to the sheep like nature of the general public who get their information fed to them via the public trough therefore think they know everything they need to know about everything except they don't!

Q: What causes people to have anxiety & mood disorders?
what can they do to fix it besides prescribed drugs? I have never been to a doctor to be diagnosed but I am almost positive I have some kind of anxiety or mood disorder. I'm not comfortable in certain settings (like being around half naked ppl or ppl who have too much skin showing), ect. whats puperdie? I am 20 years old

A: To solve this problem without medication, you have to do some "counter-conditioning". That means that you have to introduce yourself slowly to a condition or situation that you are uncomfortable with (let's says the half-naked people example) and develop a mental strategy to overcome it. For example, you might go into a situation where people are respectably dressed maybe in shorts and tank tops and see your reaction to them. If you are ok with that, go to the beach or watch beach movies that show some skin and see if you are ok with that. If the problem is when people are there right in front of you, choose to look them right in the eye or keep your gaze from the neck up (very difficult to do in that situation). The best thing, if you can, is to minimize your exposure to things that you are uncomfortable with and get yourself in more positive, appropriate surroundings. Depending on your situation, this may be difficult, but as an example going to a church youth or young adults group, you're not as likely to be as exposed to half-naked people as most groups like that won't allow it. That's just one example of counter-conditioning. Most of the problems that you have can be overcome with thought therapy - that is, step by step approaches to getting yourself used to different situations. A lot of these things will become much easier over time and with experience. Talk to your counselor at school and see if they can refer you to anyone that you can talk to. Church youth groups often have trained counselors and they are more than willing to help you. Good luck to you!

Q: Anyone Taking Risperdal and Focalin ADHD Mood Conduct Disorder?
6 year old starting ripserdal for mood disorder and focalin for ADHD. I am worried about these drugs together. I heard that taken a stimulant like focalin while having a mood disorder can make things even worse. Is it true? Does anyone know the side affects of the 2 medications together? My step-son has serious problems. He is still being evaluated at a hospital right now. Violent, trying to kill animals and his brother, holes in his walls, urinating in weird places, talking to himself, seeing things that aren't there.

A: You are giving a six year old risperdal?! Are you f^cking crazy? By doing that, you are guaranteeing that the child will grow up to be a mess.

Q: Natural remedies for depression/mood disorder?
I already know about St. John's Wort, Kava Kava, Bach flowers and homeopathics. I am looking for something different, like acupuncture. My husband is seriously depressed and our philosophical beliefs don't condone using prescription drugs. Has anyone had any success using Meridian stress tests, acupunture, raiki, massage, crystals, etc.? I want to know your personal experiences and what helped you.

A: Curing Bipolar Disorder ‘They {the medical establishment} hate that word {cure}, like the devil hates holy water’ Dr. Royal Raymond Rife ======================================... Intestinal Dysbiosis/Candida Overgrowth ‘All diseases begin in the gut’ Hippocrates 460-370BC Mental illness starts not in the Brain but the Gut. Do you have digestive problems like colic, bloating, flatulence, diarrhoea, constipation, and malnourishment {are you very skinny and find it difficult to put on weight?}, and do you have a white/yellow-coating on your tongue? Do you suffer from frequent headaches, mood swings, depression, fatigue, and other symptoms related to ‘candida overgrowth?’ Read 'Gut And Psychology Syndrome' By. Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride MD, NMedSci{neurology}, MMedSci{nutrition}: This doctor, who has a clinic in Cambridge for treating mental illnesses like Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, Depression, Schizophrenia, and Bipolar Disorder. Her son suffered from Autism, she found the cure and the root cause, and believes that all mental illness can be cured. I found that my bipolar disorder was caused or worsened by Candida overgrowth or Candida Related Complex. You should consult a Naturopathic Doctor {not a homeopath, they're different}, a Nutritionist that has treated Bipolar disorder before, and an orthomolecular medicine doctor. Candida thrive on sugar, so Cut out all sugar, unstable/imbalanced blood sugar levels can cause depression and hyperactivity, replace table sugar with Xylitol {much more healthier and beneficial and tastes the same in the same portions! you wont notice too much of a difference, don’t go near NutraSweet or Aspartame, monosodium glutamate - avoid like the plague}.Cut out stimulants like caffeine, and soda soft drinks. S. Boulardii is a good probiotic that flushes out candida from the body. Look into Kefir Making, this home-made free probiotic drink in itself will bring you much improvement in your mental health and well being, all you need is Kefir Grains to get started, google ‘Kefir Making’ and look at Doms Kefir Making website, it tells you everything you want/need to know. ======================================... Fasting & Detoxification Do a detox fast a 3-day apple fast, only red/golden delicious apples, and fresh water, along with coffee enema's, this is all stated in 'Cure your acne in 3 days' but it works great for bipolar disorder, most BP's have bad skin according to one conventional website i was reading. This will help rid your body of the accumulated toxins affecting your brain, and kill a lot of Candida Yeast. Recent studies have shown that Prozac {a popular antidepressant} has anti-fungal/candida properties, and inhibits its growth, this is due to Serotonin. Further, Sodium Valporate {used as a mood stabiliser} has been shown to stop the growth of harmful pathogenic microorganisms/worms in the gut. This is very interesting findings, as it supports that mental illness is due to problems in the gut or intestinal dysbiosis. Go on the anti-candida diet. Source: 'The Yeast Connection' Book Drink Alkali water, add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to every litre of purified water you drink, this will prevent disease and reduce the growth of Candida. Source: Mr X Acne e-book Look also into Gerson Therapy/Juicing, this has cured many diseases, not just cancer, it will help with mental illness. But start this after you have rid yourself of candida. ======================================... Correcting Nutritional Deficiencies -Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega 3 supplements or Carlson’s Brand 2-3g per day has been shown in scientific studies to reduce manic-depression significantly. Strictly, the brands mentioned as they are pure pharmaceutical grade, and are used in clinical trials, plus the Carlson’s Brand has added fat-soluble vitamins. Google it to see the research with omega 3 and its remarkable effects on mental illness, yet more evidence that mental illness is due to nutritional deficiencies, which has been aggravated by Candida overgrowth/Intestinal Dysbiosis. -EM Power Plus + by TrueHope, has been shown to be very effective, look at the testimonies on mcmillans BiPolar website. Personally i have not used this, as my current nutrition programs works great. -A multivitamin/ mineral supplement in a bioavailable form, E.g . Higher Nature brand SAMe - 400mg per day, this will boost your energy levels. And has been called the ‘instant antidepressant’, please have the histamine blood test done with the help of a mental-health orientated nutritionist, before taking this. If you are high-histamine {google it}, you will need to take methionine 1000-2000mg per day. ======================================... Getting to the ‘Cause’ of mental illness Get blood tests, to test for nutritional deficiencies, adrenal exhaustion, homocysteine, histamine {high histamine is the cause of many bipolar type symptoms, highly recommend this test}, pyluria{krytopyrolles, mispelt probably}, Allergies, Candida Comprehensive Stool test, thyroid disorders, heavy metal toxicity, Nutritional profile. Your nutritionist can arrange these test through a local lab, Biolab in London does this. Read Carl Pfeiffer's PhD book 'Nutrition and Mental Illness', he was a pioneer with orthomolecular medicine and cured many people of bipolar disorder. The Brain Bio Centre in London continues his work, as does the one in Princeton US, although it is very expensive. And in my opinion you can recover and save the money if you read and search for the knowledge. Exercise as much as you can! especially in the morning, 30mins per day minimum, or Yoga, swimming, meditation, do something relaxing. Take Coenzyme Q10 30mg to boost energy levels, when you feel tired, also SAMe. ======================================... Knowledge is Power Watch the videos on youtube.com, type in 'psychetruth' and watch the 'Nutrition by Natalie' videos especially. Take 5HTP to boost the feel good serotonin levels, and melatonin at night if you are having sleep problems. Since the circadian clock of bipolar in usually out of synch. If this is the case, watch the sunrise, and set, this will help synchronise your clock and sleep patterns to normality. Why does my Doctor not know this? Conventional medicine is crap at treating mental illness, alternative medicine has the answers. Just try it out first, regardless of what your Dr. will tell you. Just try it. Psychiatrists make a lot of money from chronic life long mental illnesses, which they claim is genetic and incurable, which is a load of BS. Further drug companies make a lot of money from you; since most mental illness cannot be cured {according to the Doctors, since they are merely repeating what they learnt at med school} you have to stay on medication for a life-time {as maintenance} Psychiatrists examine mental illness from various angles, although they are helpful, they do not address the cause of chronic mental illnesses like BP disorder. Psychiatrists will look at genetics, childhood experiences, and psychological influences, the last thing they will consider looking at is your digestive system. Strange that, since medical history gives plenty of examples where severe psychiatric conditions were cured simply by ‘cleaning out’ the patients gut. Renowned Japanese Professor Kazudzo Nishi, estimates that 1 in 10 psychiatric conditions are due to self-intoxificiation coming from the gut. Read: ‘Politics in Healing’ for more information. ======================================... Treating the Mind, Body, and Soul Treat the Body as stated above Treat the mind by learning Emotional Freedom Technique, mercola.com for more info, and find a teacher of EFT in your area. Treat the soul with meditation, read the religious scriptures of the religion that you follow, and read the Holy Qur'an, this has a healing effect on those who read it. Email me if you need anymore advice. I am confident if you follow the advice stated here, you will recover without drugs from bipolar disorder. Be patient, and perservere.

Q: I may have a depressive disorder but I dont want to take drugs?
I dont trust doctors. Theyll just hound me for any mood change and prescribe more medication.I dont enjoy being in a constant state of apathy. Whats some natural stuff I can do to ease the stress? Its my final school yr too, so Im sure thats adding to the stress.

A: Seek a psychotherapist first. They don't perscribe drugs, psychiatrists do that. Therapy can do wonders. You have to find a good one that fits you, makes you comfortable. Start out with about 3 first appointments, 3 different therapists. Continue with the one you like best. Good luck.

Q: Anyone have any experience of Topamax as a mood stabiliser for Bipolar Disorder?
I am thinking about asking my specialist to prescribe me Topamax as a mood stabiliser, does anyone have any experience of taking this drug as a mood stabiliser, did it work and did you have any side effects? I am thinking about asking my specialist to prescribe me Topamax as a mood stabiliser for my bipolar disorder. Does anyone have any experience of taking this drug as a mood stabiliser, did it work and did you have any side effects?

A: Hi. I took topomax with lithium in order to help decrease my appetite and hopefully help conteract the effects of weight gain from the lithium. It did not help with my weight gain or my hunger. I have also read that it is not as good as a mood stabilizer and should not be used alone. It is almost always prescribed with another mood stabilizer like lithium, lamictal, or depakote. It is just not as strong.
